Rotorangi Gutbuster Race Information

Race Course

Hawera Physiotherapy Kayak:

14km flat water kayak up Lake Rotorangi to the buoy (5km) return downstream past the boat ramp to the bottom buoy (2km) and return to boat ramp.

Glen Nui Station Run:

12km cross country run from the transition over the bridge past the boat house and through the farm. This is an out and back course with a loop at the end. Follow the markers.

Seaver Cycles Ltd Bike:

46km road ride from Glen Nui to Eltham via the Rawhitiroa Road. Turn left at Eltham onto SH3 to Hawera. Turn left at Rotokare Road and right into Fraser Road. Continue downhill to Austin Road, then to the finish line at the Hawera Soccer Club.

Race Rules

Entry is limited to the first 200 paid competitors. All competitors must be over 14 years of age. Entrants under 16 years must have a parent or guardian signature.

Race numbers are to be displayed at all times.
Life vests are mandatory on the lake. All kayakers must be able to self rescue. Any kayak or canoe may be used but must be in good repair and contain some form of flotation. No assistance will be given while the competitor is moving. Cycle helmets must be worn. No drafting is allowed. Ride in single file unless overtaking.
ALL ROAD RULES, MARSHALS AND POLICE OFFICERS MUST BE OBEYED AT ALL TIMES.

How to get there

On SH3 at Eltham turn east into Anderson Road, or Rawhitoroa Road, continue for approximately 20km. Turn right into Glen Nui Road and travel 2km down to the boat ramp. Parking is on the other side of the bridge in the paddock. No parking on the roadside. Allow 1/2 hour travelling time from Eltham to Glen Nui.

This is available at:

Glen Nui Station (race Start). Communal style accommodation sleeps up to 15 at $20 each. First in first served. Enquiries to Mathew Francis on 06 764 5067

The Race

Registration: Race day 7:30am – 8:30am at Glen Nui Boat Ramp

Race Briefing: 8:30am Glen Nui Boat Ramp

Gutbuster Start: 9:00am Glen Nui Boat Ramp

Biathlon Start: 10:00am Glen Nui Boat Ramp

Race Finish: Hawera Soccer Club. Showers and toilet facilities are available at the Hawera Soccer Club.

Race Meal: 1:30pm onwards at the South Taranaki Club, Caledonia Street, Hawera.

Prize Giving: Approx 3:00pm South Taranaki Club. Competitors must be present to collect merit and spot prizes.

Event gift limited to first 70 entries. Entry includes buffet meal, event gift and race pack. Late entry does not guarantee a race pack or buffet meal. Extra buffet meals for supporters may be purchased on the entry form.
